EtherCat cRIO

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody had any experience with EtherCAT and cRIO.  I am looking at it for motion control.  It seems like this is where the industry is heading.  Is that a correct statement?

Thanks

How to connect VFD to a laptop or computer?

I was recently trying to connect my Delta VFD  drive with my laptop using Vfd-Soft software (which I downloaded from Delta website) and RJ 45 to USB converter(RS232/RS485 converter). I connected the variable frequency drive to supply and connected the connecting lead to drive and pc both. I then ran the VFD-Soft software for interface. Using the Com port which was assigned to usb I used automatic detect settings for Baud rate and protocol. Then clicked the TEST button and a Success Green Signal was displayed. Next I went to step 3 to accept the settings and go online, but a error message was displayed that communication time out.
I don't know what is this and how I can resolve this issue.
Kindly help me to solve the issue.

Looking for help to find the right motion controller (X-Y-Z-Axis)

Hello Guys,

I hope I can get some help here. Tried to find something similar to my question but I was not successful.
I am working on a measurement tool which is supposed to make four-point-resistance measurements of the surface of a solar module.
This measurement has to be done on up to 450 different locations on the module.
I already have the table for putting the module on and I have the x-y-z Axis with the motors.
I am looking for a motion controller which can control these 3 motors (all the same motors) and can also be programmed with LabView.
I could not find any data sheets for these motors but I took a picture of the specification label and insert it in to this post.

Thank you in advance.

30 HP Variable frequency drives

30 HP variable frequency drives are available online as well as at store. One can buy them online or from the store for their motor which will support 22kw or higher variable frequency drive properly. The compatibility of the motor and vfd depends on the motor model and vfd power. It is necessary to ensure the compatibility for proper working of the machinery.

Hello,

I started messing around with the stepper motor program for an engineering project. Now I am working with an automation project (linear actuator).

Hardware details:

Windows 7

LabVIEW 2018

I am trying to control a Nema17 stepper motor,

https://www.igus.de/product/17823

Stepper driver, with igus dryve D1 motor controller

https://www.igus.eu/product/17827

I have never used Modbus protocol before and I am trying to get data from a 3rd party driver(D1) by using Modbus TCP. I have installed the NI Modbus Library. It looks like I am able to connect, however, I can't seem to get the data. The company provided an example program to operate the motor via Modbus TCP/IP. I configured the motor controller to LabVIEW and vi running without errors. Before being able to excecute a movement i need to perform a homing and set up the state machine. I have no idea how to do this step.Tried to search on google but i havent found any relevant source.

Below vi status pictures:

If someone have any idea in above dispalyed vi initialisation setup. Please share your suggestion. If you are not clear, I am open to explain more details.

Thanks in advance

Can I control stepper motor with TB6600 motor driver and USB 6212 NI DAQ? How to make the connection for this to operate?

Can you provide a simple LabVIEW code to control the steps moved and direction of the motor?

Thanks in advance.

Conex-CC not moving

Hi everyone, I am having issues controlling a Conex-CC linear stage using the Newport labVIEW vis (I am using LabVIEW 2011). The stage initialises, moves and its position is being tracked if I use NSTRUCT (the software supplied by Newport) but nothing seems to work if I try to control it from labVIEW. In the best case scenario I get the error attached (worst case scenario software seems to work fine buy nothing happens) and the .vi called "move Conex" is shown in the picture attached. I have already tried to reinstall NSTRUCT and update and fix Windows .NET Framework with no success.

any suggestions are welcome.
thanks a lot

hello folks,

Currently i am trying to write some LabView Program for controlling Nanotec L2818S0604-T5X5  linear stepper motors via Canopen and trying to figure out some problems. I am using cRio 9024, Can Breakout box and NI 9881 to communicate with CANopen system. My LabVIEW version is 2015 and l uploaded all drivers that l need. If you have some VI. codes with regard to control stepper motor. Could you send me via mail? l am going to create syringe pump system  by using stepper motor. l`d like to control velocity, acceleration,cw,ccw, time. l would be very appreciated, if you could give some suggestions for solving my problems.

my controller is SMCI36
Hope the above helps, but please write me back if you are still having any question to understand the problem that l mentioned above.

Best Regards,

ISM-7412E controlled over ethernet to laptop

Just purchased an ISM-7412E stepper and hoping to control it via Labview with softmotion module. I downloaded the config software and did a self test and it responds.

I tried running some example VIs that communicate with the stepper. Problem is they don't see the stepper and select resource is blank. Went into NI-MAX and searched for it, can't find it. Tried manually adding as a TCP/IP VISA and it says no response. Maybe I'm missing a driver? I'm definitely missing something. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I ran a port scan utility against the stepper IP address and the only port open was 502 so I connected to that port in NI MAX and it got a reponse. It still doesn't show up as a resource when running Labview VI though....

Interval for contour move

$

Hi

I am trying to code a program to let a single axis run a sinusoidal profile. I used the example "Axis continuous contour move.VI" as my starting point. In the example, there is a "signal generator" VI to generate the profile, where the frequency is used as input.  Meanwhile, for the "update point" property, the interval is set. So here comes to my question: The frequency seems double-defined.

In fact, I remove the frequency input for the "signal generator" VI and keep the interval alone. It is running but the frequency is not right. For example, I have a 200 point table and set interval as 1, the full cycle did not take 200s to finish. Meanwhile, if I put any number smaller than 1, the motor does not move.

I was so confused by the definition of interval now. Can somebody help?

What modules are recommended for new development? (Everything online is "not recommended for new development")

I was looking through the available modules and drives online today, and all of the Softmotion hardware is listed as "Mature", and many devices have a Last Order Date of 6/30/2020 (for example, the motor drive modules, integrated stepper motors, and stepper/servo drives).

I don't see any new devices. NI says that they do not recommend "Mature" devices for new development, but there aren't any "Active" motion control devices anywhere on NI's website. The 74xx's are now totally obsolete as well. I can't find anything PXI relating to motion control *at all*.

What is the current state of SoftMotion? Does NI still plan on doing motion control? Is it just the dedicated devices that are going away? Do we need to just use dedicated digital I/O devices for step and direction, allowing the built-in FPGA and RT processor to do the actual motion control work?

I have two projects coming up that both need some degree of motion control, and I don't want to pitch a new project that uses cRIO cards I can't buy after June.
